Your Next Idea... in the Shower

Ever get a great idea while taking a shower?

You'd think our best ideas would come in a business meeting or something - when we're super focused on a task at hand (or daydreaming at least).

In reality, our best ideas come when we're engaged in a monotonous, routine behavior - like showering.  Assuming you aren't trying to shower while entertaining a toddler, or when you're out of hot water, we're in a relaxed state.  We generally shower either early in the morning or late at night - a time when we're tired, too.  It doesn't take much thought and suddenly there's space in our brain to "work" on something else.  Feeling tired, relaxed and mindless is the perfect setting to develop a creative epiphany. Read this article to learn more about how and why great ideas happen in the shower.

A client of mine shared her recent "shower epiphany" with me the other day.  She had been feeling depressed and irritable for months. In the shower of all places, she gained clarity on the situation, realizing her feelings stemmed from a lack of career satisfaction. This moment helped her muster up the courage to make a career change. She's now working with me to determine her best fit in the working world and make her great idea come to life.

Have you had a shower epiphany lately? Send me a message if I can help with your next great idea. :)

So...what do you do?

I get that question a lot; "So...what do you do?"

Something that comes naturally to me is how to market oneself (also referred to as "selling yourself", though I like to refrain from that phrase for perhaps obvious reasons).

I also happen to love learning about how to best market yourself in a job search and have extensive experience marketing thousands of people to land new employment opportunities.

In short, what I do is, help people find jobs.

My clients come from all locations, with all backgrounds. The process is simple, services are cost effective and every client receives 30 days of follow up time to ensure complete satisfaction in my work.

Here are some of the main issues I have helped people with in the job search:

Re-write your resume and/or cover letter to make you look awesome.
One of my strengths is taking your already "good" resume and making it amazing. The documents I create for jobseekers are  completely customized, stand out to employers and get interviews. Reviews from past clients can be found here.

Prepare you for a career change.
Examples of a "career change":
  • A stay-at-home mom returning to the workforce.
  • An established teacher wanting to explore opportunities outside of the traditional classroom.
  • Someone who feels "stuck" in a position/industry and wants to do something else.

I can pull out all of your transferable skills and experiences, highlight them in a way that demonstrates your value to a new/different industry, and give you the confidence and knowledge you need to transition careers faster.

Prepare for the interview to land the job offer
It's one thing to look like a rockstar on paper, but you also need to back that up in person. It's amazing what a little interview practice can do for jobseekers at any level. I excel at quickly identifying your interview strengths and work hard to refine your areas for improvement to ensure you seal the deal.

Hope this helps answer the commonly asked question; "So... what do you do?"

Investing in a Professional Resume - Is it Worth it?

8/4/2013

If you google "professional resume writer", you'll quickly find that most professional resume writers charge $500+ for a resume. With JobSeeker Success, you will receive an exceptionally well-written, custom and professional resume to stand out from the crowd in your next job search for an investment of just $75-125, depending on the project.

Yes...I fully recognize that even "just $75-125" seems like a lot of cash out of your pocket. We all have bills to pay, budgets to maintain, and an eye on that next vacation you want to splurge on (OK - maybe that's just me)! However, you may also have limited time and experience in the job hunt as well. By enlisting in expert help, you will dramatically decrease your stress level and feel more confident moving forward through the job searching process. Not to mention, we will help you land your next job faster - which means a paycheck arriving sooner than it would on your own. We spend our time understanding today's hiring practices, determining the most effective job search strategies, creating the perfect resume/cover letter, and refining interview techniques to make your life easier.

Check out our testimonials for a little extra reassurance from past JSS clients.  And remember - by utilizing JobSeeker Success - you're not getting sucked into the $500+ that most professional resume writers charge for a service. You're getting expert, quality work for a minimal investment, to help land your next job faster. To schedule your free consultation, just send me an email!

3 Easy Things to do BEFORE you Job Search

6/25/2013

Woohoo!! You're officially ready to job search.
What's first on your list of things to do?

Maybe it's update your resume. (You haven't touched it in... forever?)

Or maybe you check out a few job search websites to see if anything catches your eye. (Yes, you're that motivated to find something new and better).

As an expert job searcher, my advice is to take a tiny step back and first tackle
my top 3 things to do before you start job searching:

1) Google yourself.

What can you find about yourself on Google? Chances are if you can find it, your potential employer will too. Beat them to the punch!

Ideally, your top results should reflect your professional work and all positive info. If you find any negative results, and you can't seem to take care of it yourself, professional services are available to remove negative references and past mistakes on the Internet, leaving your online presence more reflective of your current skills and abilities. Feel free to contact me if you'd like a recommended service.

2) Revisit your social media presence.

Yes, I'm asking you to log back onto FaceBook and Twitter. :)

Make sure your profile photo is current, flattering and conservative. Is your profile blurb accurate and professional sounding? Untag yourself from unwanted pictures and delete any posts or tweets that don't reflect well on you or your candidacy. I don't care if you have your accounts set to the highest privacy setting -- social media always has a way of haunting job seekers. Believe me... you will be thankful you did this now!

3) Update your LinkedIn profile.

If you haven’t revised your LinkedIn profile since your last job, it’s time to make some updates.

Rewrite your summary to include your current career goals. Ask colleagues to endorse you and provide recommendations that reflect your job search. Make sure your profile includes all your latest accomplishments. If you don’t have a professional picture to add to your profile, consider having one taken.

Oh...what's that you say? You don't have a LinkedIn profile?

In that case, you MUST get on the LinkedIn train ASAP if you're even thinking about job searching in the future! I can't even tell you how many clients secure their next employment opportunity as a result of LinkedIn usage. Send me an email if you need help getting started.

Once you accomplish these 3 easy things, you'll be ready to brush off that outdated resume and discover available job opportunities.
And remember -- I'm here to help every step of the way!

How to Enjoy the Summer as a JobSeeker

PicturePhoto by slightly everything on Flickr.
I know you're tired of searching on the same job boards. Probably seeing the same job postings? And you might even be applying your heart out... only to hear nothing back. No "special coffee drink" at Starbucks can make it that much more exciting. Trust me, I've been there.

I know how much time it takes to job search and do it well. For the average person, it's a really daunting, frustrating task.  Call me crazy, but I actually enjoy spending hours upon hours developing the best job search strategies, writing rockstar resumes and cover letters, and crafting killer interview question responses. If I didn't love it, I wouldn't be doing this stuff every.single.day. With JobSeeker Success, I get to share my time, knowledge and strengths with other people. Even better, they end up landing their next job a whole lot faster with a lot less stress (bonus!).

So how do you enjoy the summer as a jobseeker? I invite you to send me a message. Let's talk about your situation and enlist an expert. I'll be the one with coffee in hand, and you can sip a chilled beverage by the pool. :)

Cheers to summer job searching!

You Didn't Get the Job? Don't Take it Personally.

"In the marathon that is today’s job search, you’re going to be rejected until you’re not. It’s a fact of life. We’ve all been there. It’s not personal; it’s just business. It is unlikely this reflects on you as a person (unless you had an interview and you totally bombed – in that case, instead of focusing on the negative, learn from the experience, and go forward better prepared the next time). You may have been a great fit for some positions – someone else may have just fit a little bit better. In an employer’s market, this happens. When the tide changes, and it will, this will be less of an issue". --Michael Trust, article published on CareeRealism

Regardless of your situation - we're here to help you get down to business. We can make you feel more confident in the application process (so you'll actually WANT to apply for more jobs out there) and ensure your interviewing skills are top notch.
